The Rogun Dam is expected to be the world’s highest and tallest dam, being built on the Vakhsh River in southern Tajikistan. It is situated 110 km from Dushanbe. It is designed as a multi-purpose dam for generating electricity, regulating water, and reducing the risk of floods and droughts. Construction is expected to be completed in 2028.
The Rogun hydropower plant will include six hydroelectric generating units with a power capacity totaling 3,600 megawatts, making it the largest hydropower plant in Central Asia. Its average annual electricity generation is expected to exceed 17.0 billion kWh per year.
